Laura Kaczor, born in a small town outside of Philadelphia, PA, has been singing for as long as she can remember. Her first solo appearances were a part of dance recitals, hosted in a neighbor’s garage. But even in a venue as unassuming as this, Laura’s talent was obvious. She quickly began singing in church, and became the youngest featured soloist on the church’s “best of” album, at the tender age of 9.
•
At the age of 10, a special gift surfaced as Laura wrote and recorded her first song for her neighbor, Rose, who was dying of breast cancer. Rose listened to Laura’s song every day treasuring it because of the comfort and strength it gave her heart and spirit. All were amazed at how God used this song and how He uses many of the songs Laura has since written to bless others and touch their hearts deeply. Laura has written close to 100 songs to date. Since Laura was a child she dreamed of singing for a Disney movie and now Laura is the singer/songwriter for MelaoArts, Monarcha Stories, Enchanted Characters from the Rainforest, animated films featured as hosts at the Denver International Film Festival 2007 along with Dustin Hoffman, whose plan is to soon be produced into a full length movie. Laura continued her musical education in the public school system, learning the violin, clarinet, and flute, in addition to singing in the choir and other smaller vocal groups. She also studied the piano and guitar. But singing was her first love, and she began studying voice privately at the age of 14, with teacher Susan Dash whom she still studies with today. It was here she gained further appreciation for opera, classical, and choral music, and was subsequently accepted into several elite district and regional choral groups. Laura placed 2nd in the PMEA regional vocal competition among 50 schools and 1000 participants. She has been honored with many awards, including “Montgomery County’s Outstanding Young Woman” for Academics, Leadership, Talent, and Citizenship.

After graduating high school, Laura wrestled with the idea of attending a musical conservatory, but in light of her passion for academics, receiving a national merit scholarship, and class rank of 3rd, Laura opted instead to attend the University of Pennsylvania. But even there, music was in the forefront. Laura was accepted into
“Full Measure,” a critically acclaimed Christian a cappella group, and became a featured soloist on their second album “Not for Nothing.” Laura rehearsed an upwards of 20 hours per week with the group, in addition to performing two or three gigs a week for over three years. “Being in Full Measure was a huge part of my musical education. I learned how to perform in a group, and I learned to really listen. I also saw how disarming music is. It really is a universal language, and an excellent vehicle for communicating a message."
•
During her years at Penn, Laura also led worship for various church events, including her campus chapter of Campus Crusade for Christ. In 2001, Laura became Musical Director, Worship Leader and Co-Emcee for Jesus Fest, a quarterly worship and evangelical event that draws 1000+ students and young adults from over 150 churches all over the Northeast. She still serves in this role in Jesus Fest to date and many have come to know Christ through this ministry. Laura's involvement in Jesus Fest since its inception, has touched many youth's lives and is an expression of her love for youth and commitment to Youth Ministry as a Youth Leader, and Sunday School teacher for many years.

During her college career, Laura was overcome with the desire to write and record her own music. “I always loved to sing… but writing my own songs took me to a whole other place. It was the creative outlet I needed. Its amazing how even the simplest things struck me in profound ways – I just had to sing about them!” What began in the basement recording studio of a friend quickly grew into something more. “When people heard my songs, they all asked for recordings. And eventually, the right producers and arrangers came into the picture, and it became obvious that a full length, fully produced album was totally within reach.”
•
Laura eventually got connected with Anthony Newett, a Grammy® nominated, independent producer and studio owner in Philadelphia. It was there that Laura completed her first album, “Wake Me Up.” Once “Wake Me Up” was completed, Laura knew that a big change was in the works. For years, the thought of moving to Nashville, TN had been burning in the back of her mind, and the completion of the CD was just the kick she needed! And so, in the spring of 2006, Laura packed her bags and headed to Music City, USA. It didn’t take long for Laura to find a rhythm in Nashville.
•
She eventually connected with multi-Grammy® award winning producer, John Carter Cash, son of famed musicians Johnny and June Carter Cash, and undertook a second studio project to record the new songs she had written since she moved and completed the “Wildflowers” EP. John Carter loved Laura’s music and her songwriting and stated that this project was one of the best to ever come out of his company, Cash Cabin Studios.
•
“Working in the studio with John Carter was one of the best experiences of my life! I was surrounded with remarkable musicians, and they each brought their own unique sound to the track, while still maintaining the integrity of the song. It was an amazing process.” Some of Nashville’s finest contributed to the recording sessions. They included Tony Harrell (piano & keyboard), Bob Britt (electric guitar), Dave Roe (bass guitar who was long time bass player for Johnny Cash’s band), Ronnie McCoury (acoustic guitar & mandolin), Rick Lonnow (drums & percussion), Harry Stinson (background vocals), Charlie Chadwik (cello), and Laura Cash (violin), Chief Engineer Chuck Turner, and Assistant Engineer, Trey Call.
•
Since her move to Nashville, Laura has been busy playing out at writer nights around town, in addition to performing concerts from her first album, “Wake Me Up,” and her new songs from “Wildflowers”. Laura has her own record label, Running Spirit Records. And she has begun her “Wake Me Up” Tour throughout the country participating in 2 showcases at Gospel Music Association Week 2008 in Nashville. Her recent return to Penn for a "Wake Me Up" Concert touched the hearts of students causing her to be featured in the Ivy League Christian Observer publication.

“Music is such a huge part of our world, and it is one of the most effective mediums for communicating a message. I’ve always felt that songs that speak to the human condition, and offer hope, purpose, and beauty, should not be limited to the church. I want my music to communicate God’s love to a broken world… and an amazingly diverse world it is! It’s awesome to see how music can bridge generational and cultural barriers, and touch the heart of a person. That is what excites me the most, and keeps me singing every day.”

QU0TES
Closing Remarks by Pastor Terry Davis, following 11/22/08 Concert for University of Pennsylvania and Christ Community Church of Phila. PA sponsored by Christian Union and Penn for Jesus
"There is something that is to be said for true worship and tonight we experienced worship where we were led into the throne room where God exists and we are so grateful for the gift that you have....and a piercing gift in a beautiful way, her voice is much like an angel - you are a true worshipper and we are so blessed by this!
I believe the rest of our congregation needs to hear the benefit of this gift so there is a standing invitation to join us again. Many times we don't know what gifts exist in the body of Christ and clearly this is a gift.
When you make a decision to go full-time in ministry and have a heart for God, it is the people that support it and we want to get behind her. We support this wonderful effort and believe the presence of God is on her.
What a beautiful gift to sing and to write. The songs you have written are just so beautiful!
Thank you Lord for your great love for us as you have expressed tonight and used your daughter Laura to draw close to us and her wonderful gift to inspire us to draw closer to you.....
I pray for Laura and the ministry you have called her too, whether it be in the city, across the nation, or across the globe, that your power, your love and your presence will flow through her singing, her playing, and her writing....I pray you strengthen her, give her favor and open doors, that people will be saved and the body of Christ strengthened...In Jesus Name."
Pastor Terry Davis, Christ Community Church of Phila.
